Dr. Christine Bergan
Dr Christine Bergan is an Ottumwa native and is the daughter of the late Dick and Pat Carroll. She holds a master’s degree in vocal performance from the University of Northern Iowa, a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Iowa, and a Ph.D. in Voice Science, also from the University of Iowa. Christine has taught private voice lessons to students of all ages (both children and adults) for the past 30 years, most recently as an applied voice lessons professor at Indian Hills Community College for the past 4 years. She also has 8 years of experience as a professor of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at universities in Texas and Illinois, 8 years of experience teaching K-12 Vocal and Instrumental Music in various public school systems in Iowa and Missouri, 17 years of experience as a clinical speech-language pathologist in medical settings, and 8 years of experience as a clinical speech-language pathologist in public-school settings.
Dr. Bergan has had an active solo performance career, most recently performing on several occasions as a soloist with the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra and the Ottumwa Municipal Band. She currently serves as the president of the board of the Ottumwa Chapter of the Southeast Iowa Symphony as well as the secretary of the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra’s Governing Board. She holds continuously active memberships in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), the Iowa Choral Directors Association (ICDA), the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the International Voice Foundation, the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), and the Iowa Speech Language Hearing Association.
